Join us for a six-week virtual series to discuss strategies for new parents and techniques for caring for their newborn. Support will be provided for parents and baby. Topics will include sleep, nutrition, body mechanics, return to exercise and more. The classis led by occupational therapy professionals.

Support Groups
Mankato, MN Virtual

A grief support group for women who have experienced the death of a spouse or significant other.

This grief support group is led by widows and offers an opportunity to learn about grief, share experiences and find healing and hope from your loss. No registration is necessary.

This group is for new mothers and mothers-to-be interested in breastfeeding. Baby Cafe is a national network of breastfeeding drop-ins, combining breastfeeding information in a relaxed, informal environment where mothers can chat and learn about breastfeeding from skilled practitioners and each other. Registration is not required, this is a drop-in offering.

This weekly drop-in group meets every Wednesday via Zoom. The group is for moms to work through the natural ups and downs of breastfeeding with other moms and a lactation consultant. Bring your baby and personal pump or parts to use the hospital-grade pump, if needed. The group is facilitated by certified lactation consultants.

This two-day class is designed for women in their sixth or seventh month of pregnancy. Topics include:

  • Maternal/fetal aspects of the third trimester
  • Labor and delivery
  • Relaxation skills
  • Breathing techniques
  • Cesarean birth
  • The “normal” newborn
  • Postpartum adjustments
  • Car seat information
  • Tour of Family Birth Center

Dates:

  • Jan. 3 and 10, 5 to 8:30 p.m.
  • March 2 and 9, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • May 2 and 9, 5 to 8:30 p.m.
  • July 6 and 13, 5 to 8:30 p.m.
  • Sept. 7 and 14, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Nov. 7 and 14, 5 to 8:30 p.m.

Register for your preferred date to take the class using the "Register" link. You will not receive an automatic confirmation email upon registration. You will receive a confirmation email with a Zoom link and class details within a week of the class date.

Register for this one-time, two-hour class (bimonthly dates available) designed for women who are considering breastfeeding or those who have decided to breastfeed. It covers the benefits of breastfeeding and information needed to achieve breastfeeding goals. Support people welcome. Babies are encouraged to attend.

Register at least two days prior to class start.

Class sizes are limited. See additional class availability on the calendar. Also available is a daytime breastfeeding class.

Community Education
Virtual

This six-session class is for caregivers or anyone who is burned out from difficult times. Research has shown that when people treat themselves with kindness and compassion, they are healthier, happier and better able to sustain compassion and kindness for others.

In this class, you will learn practices that will help you harness tenderness and fierce compassion for yourself, including gently yoga movement with a focus on breath. Fierce compassion enables you to speak up for yourself, set clear boundaries and thrive. Living with strength and confidence allows you to show up for others with calmness and an open heart.

Participants should plan to attend all sessions. Michele Hoffman, a Mayo Clinic Health System yoga therapist, will teach the classes on Zoom.

This two-hour class is recommended for families who are considering or have decided to breastfeed. Partners are encouraged to attend. It includes information about benefits of breastfeeding, initiation of breastfeeding, latch and positioning, expressing and storing breast milk, breastfeeding lifestyle, and troubleshooting and resources. View additional class availability on the calendar. An evening Beginning to Breastfeed class also is available.

Interpreter services are provided for free for patients who do not speak English and are attending an in-person course in La Crosse. Call Mayo Clinic Health System at 608-392-9090 to arrange for an interpreter.

All registered participants will receive a confirmation letter. Patient Online Services users will receive a confirmation letter via the portal.

Class cancellation
If you must cancel your registration, call 608-392-9090 at least three business days prior to your class so those on the waitlist can have your spot. Classes that do not meet the minimum size requirements may be canceled. Classes that reach maximum capacity will be closed. If there are severe weather warnings in the La Crosse and surrounding counties, classes will be canceled. Call 608-392-9723 to confirm class cancellation due to severe weather.

This three-week class held on Mondays, is for moms at 24–32 weeks' gestation and their support person. Topics include a variety of information on pregnancy, the process of labor and delivery, comfort measures, the days transitioning from pregnancy to the postpartum period, newborn care and the adjustments of being new parents. Registration is required and class size is limited.

This virtual monthly gathering on Zoom is for informal conversation, camaraderie and support for women after the death of a spouse or significant other.
